St. Thomas Academy defeated Middlesex United in a 1-0 victory Sunday

St. Thomas captures U-17 Challenge Cup
St. Thomas Academy won the Challenge Cup with a 1-0 win over Middlesex United. STRATHROY — St. Thomas Academy won the London and District Youth Soccer League under-17 boys Challenge Cup here Sunday afternoon. St. Thomas defeated Chatham Attack in the semifinals on Saturday by a score of 5-2 to earn a spot in the Challenge Cup final. Scoring for St. Thomas were Devin Cannon, Mark Lynch, Aaron Kirk, Joe Esbaugh and Cody Gooding.

Playing a tough Middlesex United team in the final, St. Thomas captured a 1-0 victory as Matt Vandenberg scored a goal in the 75th minute. Goalkeeper Zack Moniz worked in poor weather conditions to keep Middlesex scoreless and recording his fourth shutout of the season.
