News - St. Thomas reaches 2D Cup final

Defeat first-place Strathroy Middlesex 2-1

St. Thomas Pro Oil Change advanced to the Western Ontario Soccer League Second Division Cup with a 2-1 win Tuesday over first-place Strathroy Middlesex.

The locals fell behind 1-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game when Matt Millson managed to split the St. Thomas defence and broke in alone on goalkeeper Mike Filipovic to beat him with a hard shot.

St. Thomas came right back on a nice passing play between Ryan Wise and Kyle Kirby whose hard shot beat Strathroy keeper Craig Boytchuk.

Each side battled hard through the contest before St. Thomas scored in the last minute when Andrew Maxwell converted a corner kick.

St. Thomas plays London Portuguese in the Cup final on Sept. 9.
